SERVICE BULLETIN
FOR PASSENGERS
REGARDING
SERVICE AND NON-SERVICE ANIMALS
ON VEHICLES
Drivers have been instructed to accommodate what is reasonable.
The customer must evaluate what is truly reasonable under those circumstances, as well. Given that dogs are the most common form of service animals, they usually sit at the person’s feet, under the seat, directly beside the mobility aide, beside the wheelchair or the scooter, or between the knees of the individual. If it is a small animal it might even sit in the lap of the individual or be in some type of carrier.
Any animal or reptile other than service animals brought on board an MTA vehicle must be in an appropriate service carrier. The carrier must fit either on the passenger’s lap or between the passenger’s feet. Passengers will not be allowed to board with animals or reptiles that are not in an appropriate service carrier. The animal or reptile is not allowed out of the service carrier while on board the MTA
vehicle.
